5 Alluring Reasons to Forgive Today &
One Good Reason Not To
Challenging and hurtful experiences are a part of human life. They help us grow emotionally, spiritually, socially, even creatively. Although, as a side effect, we can harbor anger from painful events for a long time. We may even relive challenging times over and over again long after they have passed. Forgiveness is a way to lighten the spirit from the baggage of past hurts. Here are five compelling reasons for you to forgive today, and one good reason not to.
1. You Will Feel Better Physically
The correlation between our feelings and our physical health is widely documented across many healing modalities. Often referred to as the “mind/body connection”, it illustrates a direct link between what we feel emotionally and our level of physical health. Forgiving and healing emotionally will make you feel more physically vibrant and alive.
2. You'll have More Energy
By forgiving old hurts you can refocus the energy it takes to hold on to them. This means you'll have more energy to explore new endeavors and projects.
3. Take Back Your Power
Old, unresolved hurts exert power over your present life. By holding on to the negative impact of the situation, you give the challenge (and the people involved) power in your life. Take back your power, and stop giving mental energy to the past.
4. Your Happiness is Your Priority
By letting go of past pain, you will immediately have more capacity for joy. Deciding to forgive means your joy is of greater importance to you than the hurtful memories. You choose happiness!
5. You Will Be Better Company
A spirit heavy with long held anger can develop into a bitter personality. By letting go of the negative energy and anger, you can interact with other people in a more loving and joyful way.
One Reason Not To Forgive
Forgiveness can happen in an instant, but it can also be a journey and a process. It is a very personal thing, and you will know when you are ready. No one can tell you to forgive, or demand forgiveness from you. The only reason not to forgive is if you are not quite ready. There is no rush, you'll get there.
